FC Shakhtar achievements over the period to date: UEFA Cup Winners 2009; Ukrainian League title holders 2002, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2010, 2011; Ukrainian Cup Winners 1997, 2001, 2002, 2004, 2008, 2011; reached the 2010/11 UEFA Champions League quarterfinals, played in the UEFA Champions League group stage editions 2000/01, 2004/05, 2006/07, 2007/08, 2008/09, 2010/11, 2011/12.
In 1999, Rinat Akhmetov initiated foundation of a football academy with active affiliate network. Shakhtar's state-of-the-art Kirsha training ground, which is one of the best in Europe, was inaugurated the same year. In 2009, the Donbass Arena - one of Eastern Europe's biggest elite-status stadiums - was opened.
