The match between the actual winner of reserves championship and the leader of ongoing competition was really looked forward. Lviv Karpaty are playing superbly this season, being inferior to no one.

The Lviv reserves arrived to the capital of miners with the first team and rushed to the match directly from the plane. Our team had its own problems. Three players were injured and five who had hardly managed to get from Sweden, where Ukraine reserves national team is located.

Both teams were felt to have attitude for victory. The football was of really high quality: the rivals deserved playing with each other and were worth attracting larger audience. The weather was also favorable, it was comfortable to play.


It was dangerous shots of Yegor Kartushov and penetrating sharp passes of Oleksiy Polyanskyy that are memorable from the first half. Bogdan Butko was involved in attack at one moment and shot dangerously from the distance. The ball whizzed near the right stand of Karpaty goals. As for the guests, the most vivid moment was when Yuriy Gabovda was shooting our goalkeeper point-blank. Another Yuriy, Furta, was keeping our defense under strain at the edge of attack. But nothing ended up in goals— 0:0.

The second half of the game passed not less excitingly. The score was opened at the 58^th minute. That very Furta threw the miners’ defenders apart and   shot into the back corner. Vyacheslav Bazylevych didn’t save the team — 0:1. Shakhtar tried to reduce the lead. The opportunities for that did exist. The most real was of Oleksiy Polyanskyy who was shooting from about five meters. But, alas!

During the compensated time the guests managed to perform sharp counter attack which was stopped by our keeper’s foul in his penalty area. The penalty shot was fulfilled by Yaroslav Kutsyaba— 0:2… Karpaty have 7 points more then our team.

The head coach of Shakhtar reserves Valeriy Yaremchenko:
—   The way we played was not inferior to that of our rival’s. But we didn’t fulfill our moments. Karpaty are a very good team. I loved their attitude and grand wish. The leaders of Anatoliy Busnyk national team had spoiled our preparation to this match. It’s no good to work like that! I am very reluctant to let my guys be capped.
