Lorenzo the Magnificent set off to Shakhtar

We were writing at the beginning of December that Donetsk Shakhtar footballers portraits created by Donetsk painter Tatyana Ponomarenko-Leverash visited the most prestigious exhibition in the world – international Modern art biennale in Florence. Some days ago Tatyana turned out to get back from Italy and not empty-handed! Her paintings impressed the organizers so much that they have decided to award the composition from Donbas capital with the highest award – the golden medal of “Lorenzo the Magnificent”. Donetsk Mayor Oleksandr Lukyanchenko who was officially representing Donetsk in Florence was also awarded the prize for memory.

–– Even at the first day of the exhibition the attention of the jury, which included the best art experts of the world, was drawn by our work, - Tatyana Ponomarenko-Leverash shared her impressions. – The specialists saw the idea of nations uniting in my works. It’s because Shakhtar is an international where both Ukrainian players and footballers from other countries – Brazil, Check Republic, Croatia, Serbia, Romania, Poland, Nigeria – are performing. All of them are united by one goal – to bring their team to new achievements and trophies..  

According to Donetsk painter, it was exactly nations uniting in order to achieve total success that appealed to the strict jury. Moreover, the organizers grabbed the moment to agree with Tatyana the creation of new collection.

––A new project will be devoted to euro-2012 football championship, which is to take place in Donbass as well, - Ponomarenko-Leverash said. It will be called “Golden names of Donbass”. It will include the collection of the pictures devoted to Shakhtar and football as a whole, as well as other sports. The special place will be given to routine work of the miners.

Besides, biennale president Pasquale Celona made Tatyana an offer which is difficult to turn off: he asked her to paint his personal portrait.
