At the time of Soviet Union the confrontation history of Shakhtar vs. Zorya is laid in twelve years.  First the two team’s paths came across in 1967. And in 1972 they gave their clash a rest for a while.  It was exactly that time, when the football fate took both teams to sides apart: the Hirnyky fought in First League and Voroshylovgradtsy (Zorya’s nickname at that time) did the impossible — they won USSR Championship. The Donbas derby recommenced a year later in 1973. This time it has been dragged out for seven years more. In 1979 Zorya could not move to Premier League.

Of the 24 matches played Donetsk side gained ten wins, suffered five defeats and drew the rest of times. Shakhtar’s   F-A figures  were 33-27. But a curious thing about Shakhtar’s losses strikes one’s eye is that all of them were away.  Shakhtar has never lost to Zorya a single match home!

Amazingly, the same can be said about six Cups, where Shakhtar took on Zorya. In both cases, when the Hirnyky lost to Zorya, the Voroshylovgradtsy hosted the games.
