Today, Shakhtar U-21 held a regular fixture in the Ukraine Championship. The Pitmen’s rival was Illichevets (Mariupol). As it often happens some of the first team players were in the squad. Rustam Khudzhamov stood in goal; three of four defenders were Icshenko, Kobin and Kryvtsov.

The game was not full of moments in the first half. Both teams created just a couple of opportunities. Gabedava and Sclobov stood out from the rest of the team but both of them were off target. Shakhtar replied with Pylyp Budkovskyy’s efforts but all of them were blocked by the defenders. Maxim Ilyk had his attempt at goal but Sergei Semenovic was strong as a rock in goal.

There was a great determination by Kobin who not only worked hard on his flank but also tried to act as a playmaker by cutting inside. At the beginning of the first half, Ilyk could not take his chance and then Kobin fired wide of the far corner from a close range. Nevertheless, Shakhtar scored an opener in two minutes. Budkovskyy, assisted by Kobin, put the ball into the near corner with a vintage shot.

The subs were reviving the game a little but it was not enough for creating scoring opportunities before the final whistle. Fedotov and Ovchynnikov looked very determined today as well as Kobin with his attempts at goal and Churko with a shot into the near corner. The score remained the same – 1:0
